Yellow Barn Members Present 2011 Show

The Friends of the Yellow Barn will hold its annual members exhibition open to the public over the next two weekends.

The 17th Annual Friends of the Yellow Barn Juried Members Show is now on view in the Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery through Dec. 18, 2011. The gallery is free and open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from noon - 5 p.m.

The exhibition features the work of 88 individual artists who were selected from a pool of 183. Frederick-based sculptor Homer Yost served as the judge and awarded six prizes at the opening reception on the evening of Saturday, December 3.

Winners include: Jonathan Ege (First Place/Best in Show Award); Catherine Abramson (Second Place Award); Karen Van Allen (Third Place Award); Jan Rowland (Third Place Award); Ann Schaefer (Third Place Award); and Kathryn Mannle (Honorable Mention Award).

The Friends of the Yellow Barn has over 600 members. Plaza Artist Materials sponsored the First Place Award. Only original paintings and drawings were accepted. Subjects are varied and include landscape, figure and abstraction. All artwork is for sale.

Gallery Manager and Chautauqua Tower Resident Artist J. Jordan Bruns, who has organized this show and many others at the Yellow Barn, will be featured on NPR's WAMU 88.5 on Friday, December 9 at 1 p.m. and Saturday, December 10 at 7 a.m. to discuss his work.
