A 17-year-old male student was arrested Oct. 25 at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and charged with intention to distribute marijuana, according to Montgomery County police.
Police were called to B-CC at 10:45 a.m. Oct. 25, according to officer Rebecca Innocenti, a police spokeswoman.
The boy was arrested on school grounds and police found five pre-packaged plastic baggies of marijuana in his possession, Innocenti said.
He was transported to the Second District Police station and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled, dangerous substance on school property, Innocenti said.
Dana Tofig, a Montgomery County Public Schools spokesman, said the incident was under investigation.
A letter was not sent home to parents, he said.
"We discuss making smart choices about drug and alcohol use with our students beginning in elementary schools and throughout middle and high school," Tofig wrote in an e-mail to Patch. "That is emphasized every year and the consequences are laid out clearly in the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook that students receive each year."
While he couldn't speak to the particular case, "a student who is in possession of narcotics on a school campus will almost assuredly face suspension and may face expulsion depending on the details of the case," he wrote.

Agree that drugs and alcohol have no place in our school systems. The boy made bad choices- of time-age -and venue. That said -the description of pot being a "dangerous " controlled substance is incorrect. It is dangerous because it is controlled like heroine - making it a hot $$$ commodity- inviting organized crime. It's a plant. Legalize it, tax it, put it in the same category as alcohol.

It's dangerous not merely because it's controlled but it's dangerous for other reasons. For example, marijuana (just like alcohol) is dangerous to drive an auto while under the influence.
I'm for legalization too but let's not resort to hyperbole. Both marijuana and alcohol are dangerous.

I agree with Becky above and said so for years. Legalize M like beer and TAX it. It IS everywhere just like beer is for teens - parental upbringing is key - not the Nanny, Diva's, YOU!

If only McDonald's across the street were still open, this would have never happened!

No don't say it's so. McDonalds is closed. Move away for a year and look what happens. Well I guess the good news is that it wasn't Meth.
