YoCake, Crate and Barrel Close At Montgomery Mall

The popular Westfield home goods store and cupcake shop have both closed their doors.

Two Westfield Montgomery Mall mainstays have closed their doors.

Popular home goods store Crate and Barrel is now a vacant storefront at the Bethesda shopping hub. So, too, is sweets eatery YoCake in the mall's food court.

Crate and Barrel, the furniture, kitchenware, and bedroom and bath accessories store that's become a wedding registry destination, has two other locations near Bethesda -- in Tyson's Corner and in upper northwest Washington, DC.

YoCake, which serves up cupcakes topped with frozen yogurt, has locations in Rockville and Dupont Circle. The shop also recently began offering the "yokie," a frozen yogurt cookie sandwich.

The YoCake closure comes amidst changes at the mall's food court, where renovation began several weeks ago to raise the ceiling and expand the seating area. Westfield recently unveiled a video simulation of the renovated dining terrace and much-anticipated ArcLight Cinemas, which will be located above the food court.

Erin, You're calling a cupcake place a "mainstay"? Don't be absurd. It was just there a few years.

Crate and Barrel was truly a mainstay! A quality store, good merchandise, fair prices, friendly salespeople. It's sad that now we have no kitchen store at all in Montgomery Mall. Sur la Table, are you listening?

Erin, Why did C & B leave? Your story offers no reasons. Thanks for any details.

Obviously not popular enough... I guess even the rich have cut back on overpaying for furniture, and frankly froyo is an abomination.

This is like a news article that's "shocked" that popular places like Worstbuy, circuit city, and blockbuster go out of business.

Next up, quality reporting how your local rug store is having a 50% off "sale" and the mattress place down the street is going "out of business" and liquidating.

Mikey: We can assume its popularity and the rich aren't buying but it would be great to see how the C&B has spun it. Because, afterall, they still have locations in Spring Valley and Tysons, no? And, if you think C&B is expensive you should check out Pottery Barn, but to your point they just closed up in Mezza Gallerie. I just like to her how its being spun....

I have heard that Crate and Barrel needed more space. They want to start selling furniture like the store at Tyson's Corner. Was also told that their lease was up. Hope this helps.

Thanks Marianne--that is useful context. Certainly was the case that they couldn't push much furniture in the Monty Mall space.

You're welcome. They will be missed though. Great store!

Bet Marianne is right! C&B and PB offer good value for their products, but they are not ikea, nor are they Ethan Allen or Roche Bobois or the Design Center!!
It is Tysons now, no Corner and no apostrophe,
Wonder what Mikey thinks of Walmart (NOT Wal-Mart) coming closer in?
They have :furniture".....
