DoodyCalls for Clean Yards in Potomac

DoodyCalls, run by two Potomac natives, meets the needs of local dog owners.

It's the rare pet owner who will tell you he or she enjoys cleaning up after the dog. That's especially true if the owner has more than one dog with free rein of the yard. For those pet owners who need a little extra help when it comes to cleaning up after their pet, DoodyCalls is their answer.

DoodyCalls, a service that picks up and disposes of pet waste, is the largest pet waste disposal company in the area and becoming a resource for many families in Potomac. DoodyCalls cleans up after hundreds of dogs in the area each week.

"We take the unpleasant part out of owning the pet and leave more time for play with less time for picking up after them," said Claudine Rubin, co-owner of the franchise covering Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties.

The concept behind DoodyCalls is simple: a uniformed, licensed, pet waste technician visits your yard each week to clean up the waste. The cost per visit depends upon the number of dogs and the size of the yard.

There are more than enough dogs to keep DoodyCalls busy. The business has three trucks and three full-time pet waste technicians serving the area, Rubin said.

The service is a hit with many local families who find that it helps manage the yard.

"It's convenient; easy," said Mike Rothman, a Kensington resident who has been using the service for two years. "It helps me keep up without having to think too much about it. I like to keep the yard livable for the family."

Potomac natives, Rubin and her husband Mark, started DoodyCalls five years ago, in part because it was a good way to leverage the systems they had in place for their existing Got Junk franchise.

"We're basically just like any other home service that's outsourced," Rubin said. "Our average customer has two large dogs."

In addition to individual residences, they take care of dog parks, common areas for communities like King Farm and many pet waste stations in the area.

The business is not only helping pet owners, but also helping the environment, Rubin said.

"Dog waste is actually toxic," Rubin said. "When it rains, it seeps into the ground and gets in the ground water."
