Gallery Har Shalom Opens New Season

A reception for the exhibit will take place Sept. 11.

with an exhibit titled "Destinations, Dolls and Other Delights.”

Including destination photos from around the world by photographers Jim Auerbach, Dave Mullen and Ted Schroll, hand-made display dolls by Celia Sullivan and one-of-a-kind ceramic creations by Karen Askin, the show features work created entirely by regional artists.

According to Fran Abrams, gallery committee chair, the show will offer an experience of thought-provoking beauty, with some humor thrown in as well.

“The destination photos are beautiful. There’s no other word for them,” Abrams said. Of the dolls: “I haven’t seen anything like that locally. They each have such a distinct personality, such beautiful craftsmanship,” she said.

The exhibit opened on Monday, and already Abrams has had many comments on the quality of the work.

“Some people are drawn to the photography and others are drawn to the ceramics because they are usable,” she said. “It depends on where an individual is coming from; everyone responds differently.”

"Destinations, Dolls and Other Delights,” is free and open to the public and will run through Oct. 24, with an opening reception to take place Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All art pieces are available for purchase, with part of the proceeds benefiting Har Shalom.
