Over 750 Girl Scouts of all ages from across Montgomery County celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts in the USA on Sunday, March 11. 

This large anniversary celebration event, held at Temple Beth Ami in Rockville had girls participating in well-loved Girl Scout traditions such as singing favorite Girl Scout songs and conducting a re-dedication ceremony. In addition, scouts visited various activity stations focusing on healthy living, Girl Scout history, travel opportunities, the great outdoors and the environment.

All scouts who attended donated non-perishable food for the Manna Food Center as a large scale service project. Groups of scouts also had their picture taken forming a human “100” while learning a bit about media.            

On March 12, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low founded the first Girl Scout Troop in Savannah, Georgia. 

One hundred years later, the Girl Scout movement is still growing strong with 3.2 million members in this country building “girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.”
