Bethesda-based MoverMoms will be hosting its fifth-anniversary "Be Inspired" luncheon and auction on Sunday, Feb. 12, at the River Falls Clubhouse in Potomac.  

This will not be your typical suburban silent auction—it features many services donated by the nonprofit group's participants, including an hour of dance coaching by a "MoverTeen," a guitar and mandolin lesson by a "MoverDad," handmade glassware, scarves and hats by MoverMoms, handmade pottery by a "MoverGrandfather," cat-sitting services by a "MoverKid" and much more.

Special guests include former Congresswoman Connie Morella, State Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez and first lady of Montgomery County Catherine Leggett. In addition, there will be live music provided by Bethesda mom rock-'n-roller Patrice Moerman and many traditional auction items such as restaurant gift cards and raffles.

"It's going to be a super-fun and inspiring afternoon," says MoverMoms executive director and co-founder Rebecca Kahlenberg. 

"In all our projects and even in our celebrations we have the underlying goal of engaging people in community service and promoting volunteerism."

MoverMoms' five-year anniversary is a milestone for the group, which began in 2007 with the serving of dinner at The Children's Inn. 

Since then, the organization has completed scores of community service projects with a focus on making a positive difference in the Washington, DC, region, in other states, and as as far away as Haiti, El Salvador and Pakistan.

Through hands-on volunteer work, collections drives galore and numerous educational programs, the group has worked tirelessly to help alleviate poverty, promote better cross-cultural understanding, clean up the environment and model the importance of service for the next generation.

"We are all about nurturing the community, both locally and globally, and having fun in the process," explains Kahlenberg.
