New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Debut On Bethesda Row
Bethesdans have a new place to charge up their EVs.
Commuters and residents can get charged up at two new car charger locations near Bethesda Row.
Chargers for electric vehicles are already operating at numerous locations across Montgomery County, including two in Bethesda.
Federal Realty, the management company for Bethesda Row, is one of the firms taking the lead nationally in helping provide the infrastructure essential for the new electric vehicle technology to be implemented on a widespread and even massive scale in the not-too-distant future.
The car charging units are located in the garage beneath Bethesda Row at 4950 Elm Street. To access it, pass through the gate there and the station is at the first parking spot past the elevators. Cost: 49 cents per kilowatt hour.
Federal Realty also has charging stations at Rockville Town Square and at Pentagon Row in northern Virginia.
“With a growing number of our residents and visitors now driving electric vehicles, we wanted to provide EV charging service to give them the convenience of recharging while at work or shopping at the mixed-use Maryland and Virginia properties,” Michael Kelleher, vice president, asset management at Federal Realty, said in a statement.
Carstations.com, a website devoted to mapping the location of charging stations worldwide, also lists a plug-in spot at Chevy Chase Nissan, 7701 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda. From that website’s tallies, it appears that there are now at least 57 car charging locations in Maryland alone.
Many others are jumping aboard the bandwagon too. In the District of Columbia, Carr Properties has two car charging stations in operation at downtown locations. Other real estate firms such as the Lenkin management company are involved as well.
There are also places to plug in at The American University (Katzen Arts Center), George Washington University (Academic Center on I Street NW), Days Inn on Connecticut Ave. NW near the Van Ness Metro, Washington Harbor in Georgetown (3000 K Street NW), National Public Radio and the Department of Transportation at 2000 14th Street NW.
