This Black Friday, New App Helps Users Navigate the Mall
Westfield launches app that helps shoppers stay up to speed on deals in real time.
Looking for information on the best Black Friday deals at the Westfield Montgomery Mall?
There's an app for that.
Westfield Montgomery formally announced the launch of its new app – which is a free download from the Apple iTunes store on the iPhone, iPod and iPad – last week. The app digitally maps the mall, offers directions to and from stores within the mall (and directions to and from the mall itself), links to a searchable store directory, and displays information about special events and promotions. It can even tell you where you parked via a voice memo.
While it's geared to make life easier for shoppers every day of the year, it will certainly come in handy this Black Friday. Nearly every retailer in the mall is taking part in some way in the buying and selling frenzy that marks the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, according to Westfield Montgomery marketing manager Joanna Caputi.
"Traditionally there is a lot of traffic, and given our indicators, we're cautiously optimistic for a great season," Caputi said. "Traffic is building, and I know retailers are working very hard to make the season successful with their offers to get the consumers out spending."
The app is geared to help customers navigate the mall quickly and easily by acting as a virtual personal shopping assistant, Caputi said.
"It's not only a mall directory, but it's insight into what's happening at the stores is in real time," Caputi said.
The mall has already posted Black Friday deals from its retailers on its website, and all that info will be updated and accessible via the app for Black Friday shoppers, Caputi said. Users can even search for deals or products they hope to purchase and create a personalized walking route around the mall.
The mall officially opens at 6 a.m. Black Friday, but some retailers – including the Disney Store, Old Navy and the Guess store – will open at midnight. Sears and Macy's will open at 4 a.m.
Westfield malls across the country have their own version of the app, said Caputi, and it's also expected to be available on other smart phones like the Blackberry early next year.
Sales, offers and promotions are available via the Web here, but of course, you can always download the app to check them out. Don't forget to let us here at Patch know what you think. Happy shopping!
