Students hoping to follow in the footsteps of Saanya Ali – a top Potomac student volunteer – should polish up their resumes for the 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

The financial services company is accepting applications for the 18^th year of the community service award, created in 1995 to recognize middle and high school volunteers. Saanya Ali, 16, of Potomac, was one of Maryland’s top two youth volunteers for the 2012 award, receiving a $1,000 award, an engraved silver medallion and a trip to Washington, D.C.

Ali was honored for making and selling greeting card -- raising more than $25,000 to help underprivileged children around the world to go to school.

Volunteers interested in applying for the 2013 award should submit an online application by Nov. 6, and then submit the application for certification by a local school or volunteer organization.
