In a world were teenagers depend on cell phones, there is always a consequence of using it while driving.

On Oct. 4 and 5, Churchill hosted its “Every 15 Minutes” program to convey to students the idea that doing any of these things could end up getting you killed, or not getting the job you wanted because you have a DUI on your criminal record.

Thursday during lunch Churchill put on a mock crash to simulate what happens if you drink and drive or text while driving. Through out the day, school administration and Montgomery County Police came into classrooms and took students to simulate what it would be like if they were actually killed.

On a side note, I wasn’t taken out of class.

According to a recent article by the Churchill Observer, assistant principal John Taylor commented, “Our experience is that it’s not particularly effective to just hope students don’t ever do it. If students experience just a small taste of the loss of a classmate, they will make better choices when faced with an opportunity to engage in distracted driving.”

My opinion on the 15 minutes program -- I thought it was a great opportunity to see what kind of damage this could do to someone and their family. This also is great opportunity for young and inexperienced drivers to see the consequences that come out of this event.
