The Art of Classical Greece
Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, 4805 Edgemoor Ln, Bethesda, MD | Get Directions »
$10.00
In this lecture we will examine what makes Greek art “Classical.” What is the importance of the human body, proportion, permanence, and harmony in Greek architecture and sculpture of the 5th and 4th century BC? What did Greek artists learn from the Egyptians? What is the significance of the nude in Greek art? How did the statesman Perikles (c. 495-429 BC) transform the Acropolis in Athens into a monument to that city’s political, cultural, and economic power?
Judy Scott Feldman, PhD, Art Historian
