Blue Shirts on Bradley?

Why were all those students and faculty standing around and cheering in blue T-shirts at 8:00am Thursday morning? In a lovely show of support, all 300 students and 75+ faculty lined the driveway of Connelly School of the Holy Child on Bradley Blvd. to bid a fond farewell to their headmistress, leaving at the end of this school year.  Garbed in specially made shirts boasting honorary logos, they cheered her as our longest running facilities team member, Javier Guzman (whose daughter attended HC) drove her around the campus in a decorated golf cart. Upon arriving for our regular “Homeroom in the Gym,” the student body watched a tribute video, then erupted into a choreographed version of “Roar,” complete with tiger mascots. At the year-ending mass later this morning, with Rev. Msgr. John Enzler presiding, numerous alumnae returned to join the chorus and Mrs. Appel was presented with a quilt made by Joanie Brady-Rios and signed by constituents from throughout the HC community. Saturday’s cocktail reception on campus, attended by more than 400 parents, alumnae, former parents and faculty/staff, was equally special. She will be moving to Massachusetts to take over the president’s role at the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsborough, MA.
