5 Things to Know Today: Aug. 25

Welcome to Thursday Potomac; the weather might be iffy today, but as Dorothy said, "There's no place like home!"

Rise and shine Potomac! Let’s get your day started off with a few tidbits to complete your morning.

1. After waking up to beautiful, sunny days over the last few days, today looks a little different. We start off with sun in the morning, but we will likely end the day with thunderstorms and rain. Highs are expected to reach the high 80s and then dip tonight into the lower 70s.

5. On August 25, 1939, The Wizard of Oz debuted in theaters around the United States. Surprisingly, considering its classic status today, the film was only met with moderate success. It wasn’t until a televised special in 1956, with 45 million viewers, that the movie began to enjoy popularity.

Take time out of your schedule this evening and sit down with your kids to watch this American classic before they are too busy with homework. It is supposed to rain tonight, after all... Where’s the popcorn??
