5 Things to Know Today: Aug. 29

Let's get your day started with these five must-know items.

Welcome to another Monday, Potomac! I hope you were able to enjoy your weekend, despite some rough weather Saturday.

1. Getting your day started, may I suggest that you take a look at our first story of the day about D.C.-area residents flocking to the C&O National Historical Park Sunday afternoon. Dozens found their way into the park, despite the fact that the National Park Service had closed the Falls Road entrance due to fallen trees and power outages.

2. Since it’s the first day of school for Montgomery County Public Schools, that’s probably the first thing on your mind. MCPS reported last night that schools with power Monday morning would begin the school year as scheduled. Luckily for you, Potomac, it looks like all of our schools have power! Check back this afternoon for some first-day-of-school pictures.

3. Your weather for the day looks lovely: mostly sunny with highs near 78, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight’s lows may reach 58.

4. August 29, 1966 was a sad day in history for many music fans: On this day The Beatles played its last concert before paying fans in San Francisco. Put on your favorite Beatles record tonight to mark this day.

5. Remember, the runs through Sept. 5. Check out their full schedule here.
