Check out our calendar for more of the day's events

It’s Wednesday morning, Potomac! And I’m sure you know what that means: It’s time for your daily “5 Things.” Among today’s offerings: weather, the day’s events and a bit of quirky information.

1. Today we can expect rain with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Today’s high may reach 64 with lows around 59. Tonight there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

2. Over the last few days we have featured stories regarding the Montgomery County bag tax. Have you voted? Let Patch know where you stand!

3. . In her post, Anne discusses the sense of freedom and weightlessness she feels when moving through her practices. Do you have a hobby or activity that gives you a similar sense of freedom? We would love to hear about it!

4. Do you like writing? Do you have an opinion about local issues or a special skill or hobby you’d like to share? Potomac Patch wants you! The website will be making room for local bloggers on the site and we're looking for anyone who can riff on various topics, share their personality and engage our readers in discussions. If you’re interested in blogging on the site, shoot an e-mail to katie.griffith@patch.com.

5. On this day in 1901, the White House was named. Before Oct. 12, 1901, the building that houses our executive branch of government was known as the “Executive Mansion.” We have President Theodore Roosevelt to thank for the much more colorful title.
