5 Things to Know Today: Oct. 18

Check out our calendar for more of the day's events.

Welcome to Tuesday, Potomac! I’m sure you know what that means: It’s time to get your morning started with your daily “5 Things.” Among today’s offerings: weather, a glimpse of what to expect later in the week and a few quick notes.

1. Today should be partly sunny with a high near 71, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight, we may see showers and a thunderstorm with lows near 55.

2. Today we’re in the middle of Community Service Week, and Patch would love to share your story. How do you stay involved with your community? What service projects are important to you? We will run a series of stories profiling community service in and around the Potomac community all week, so send in your own photos and stories of community service! Email Potomac Patch editor katie.griffith@patch.com for more information.

3. Are you a social media buff? Do you love to share and connect with your community online? Check out the Potomac Patch Twitter account, and you follow it for all the latest Potomac updates, especially regarding breaking news. We also have a Facebook page were we poll readers on those fun questions we’re just itching to ask.

4. Shopping around for flu shots? Patch has the scoop! Check out our list of where to find the vaccinations around the area and let us know if you’ve found great service somewhere not on our list.

5. Do you like writing? Do you have an opinion about local issues or a special skill or hobby you’d like to share? Potomac Patch wants you! The website will be making room for local bloggers on the site and we're looking for anyone who can riff on various topics, share their personality and engage our readers in discussions. If you’re interested in blogging on the site, shoot an e-mail to katie.griffith@patch.com.
