5 Things to Know Today: Oct. 5

Check out our calendar for more of the day's events.

Good morning, Potomac, and welcome to Wednesday. We’ve compiled your daily “5 Things” to help you get up and greet the day. Among today’s offerings: weather, what’s next for today and the day’s events.

1. Today should be nearly perfect, if I haven’t just jinxed us all. We can expect sunny, clear skies with a high near 73, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should remain mostly clear, with a low around 46.

2. . Are you participating in Walk to School Day this year? Send us your pictures!

3. Are you an active user of our local public library? If so, you might want to check out to enjoy reading activities and give the county your feedback.

4. This day in history may be fake, depending on where you live. Fake; as in, “not real.” Because of the switch from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, Oct. 5, 1582 does not exist in Italy, Poland, Portugal and Spain.

5. Do you like writing? Do you have an opinion about local issues or a special skill or hobby you’d like to share? Potomac Patch wants you! The website will be making room for local bloggers on the site and we're looking for anyone who can riff on various topics, share their personality and engage our readers in discussions. If you’re interested in blogging on the site, shoot an e-mail to katie.griffith@patch.com.
