Good morning, Potomac, and welcome to the beginning of another week. It’s Monday and time to get the ball rolling on another work/school day. To help keep those Monday Blues at bay, we’ve compiled your daily “5 Things” to get you going:

1. Today showers and thunderstorms are possible, according to the National Weather Service. Highs are expected to reach 79, with lows dropping to 67.

2. Ready for some weekly deals? Check back at 10 a.m. for this week’s edition of Frugal Families and get ready to start saving.

3. Remember to send in your pictures depicting how you enjoyed the weekend. Patch always wants to hear from you and we’re excited to feature your photos. E-mail katie.griffith@patch.com.

4. Have you seen any thing new and interesting lately? Have you heard of a great local project? Do you know of a volunteer around the Potomac area who should be recognized for great work? Patch wants to hear. Send us your story ideas, tips, comments or photos to katie.griffith@patch.com

5. Today in 1789 the United States welcomed a few firsts. On this day in history, Thomas Jefferson was appointed the first United States Secretary of State, John Jay was appointed the first Chief Justice of the United States, Samuel Osgood was appointed the first United States Postmaster General, and Edmund Randolph was appointed the first United States Attorney General.
