5 Things to Know Today: Sept. 5

Labor Day weekend is still in full swing.

Happy Monday, Potomac! Don't let those Monday blues get you down -- you still have a full day left in this long weekend. How will you be spending your Labor Day? We have "5 Things" ready to help you decide:

1. Rain is possible today, according to the National Weather Service. Unfortunately for those picnics you may have planned, today's weather includes a chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and evening with a high near 80. Lows may reach 62.

2. Barring weather issues, the Kensington Labor Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. and starts at the intersection of St. Paul and Plyers Mill. The Olde Towne Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade takes place today at 1 p.m. on Summit and Diamond Avenues in Gaithersburg.

5. Here's a fun fact about Labor Day: The first big Labor Day in the United States took place on another September 5, but back in 1882 in New York. Read more about the history of this national holiday at the U.S. Department of Labor.
