5 Things to Know Today: Sept. 8

Read below for Patch's daily "5 Things" to start your day.

Rise and shine, Potomac, and welcome to Thursday. Patch has a few notes to get you started for your day, from today’s weather forecast (yes, you guessed it) to what you can expect to see later in the day.

1. For starters, please remember that authorities still urge caution during your daily commutes as heavy rain is expected to continue.

2. We should continue to expect rain today, according to the National Weather Service. Showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day, with highs reaching 81 and lows near 67.

3. This morning we are happy to present two new Potomac teachers, Heidi Allen and Janet Gawler, both working at Potomac Elementary School. If you know of a teacher you would like to see featured on Potomac Patch, please let us know. Email katie.griffith@patch.com with any tips or education story ideas.

4. The anniversary of September 11, 2001 is approaching, and many people have the memory of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on their minds. We encourage you to check back today at 2 p.m. for a story featuring two Potomac residents discussing how 9/11 affected those they love.

5. Be sure to check out our feature story describing a breath-taking transformation in a Potomac church. Elaborate iconography now decorates the Saints Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church on River Road, and we have the pictures to prove it.
