Best of Show: Potomac Dog Competes at Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

A German shepherd from Potomac is retiring after winninghis breed at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

After 100 wins, 5-year-old Mr. Fritz is retiring.

Mr. Fritz, a German shepherd owned by Edward Farrell of Potomac and Pat Walker of Springfield, Ill., was named the best of his breed last week at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York. He then finished third among the breeds in the herding group at the country’s top dog show, reports Gazette.Net.

Such a highly ranked competitor comes with quite a name: Grand Champion Wolf Creek Galaxy of Merivern is his formal name.

“His breeder’s family had a favorite uncle named Fritz and they named the dog after him,” Farrell told the website. “We changed it a little and call him Mr. Fritz.”

Mr. Fritz has had 100 group wins and 15 best-in-show awards at dog competitions.

In December, he won the herding group at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Florida.
