2. Glenn Miller Birthday Bash

Where: Glen Echo Park Spanish Ballroom, 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo, Maryland 20812

When: Saturday, February 25, 2012, 8:00pm – 12 midnight

Why Go?: The Tom Cunningham Orchestra and featured singers Andre Enceneat, Robin Cunningham, and Craig Gildner will play the swingin’ sounds of Glenn Miller in celebration of the icon's birthday. Dance instructors will give a free beginners’ swing dance lesson at 8 p.m. then the 17-piece big band, will play for the dance party from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Price: $15, $8 for kids 5-13

 

3. Churchill High School's Winter Play, “Is He Dead?”

Where: Winston Churchill High School, 11300 Gainsborough Rd, Potomac, MD

When: Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25 at 7:30 and Sunday, February 26 at 2:30.

Why Go?: "Is He Dead?" relies on a familiar farcical device -- a man in a dress. The old story from Mark Twain was updated by playwright David Ives in 2007 to critical acclaim. Churchill is known for it's great productions, so come out and support the high school drama department. Directed by Lynda Scionti. This play is most appropriate for people over 10 years of age.

Price: Advance tickets $8 at  or $10 at the door.

 

4. "Bye Bye Birdie"

Where: Congregation Har Shalom, 11510 Falls Rd, Potomac, MD

When: Saturday, February 25th at 8:00 p.m. and a matinee show on Sunday, February 26th at 3:00 p.m.

Why Go?: This local production of the classic musical showcases cast of 54 actors, singers and dancers, including children and teens from 17 area schools. The show celebrates the youth of rock and roll as teens swoon over rock'n'roll star Conrad Birdie in his visit to a small town.

Price: General Admission – $20 per adult, $15 for children under 13. Patron seating – $75 per adult, $36 for children under 13.

 

5. Comedienne, Lily Tomlin


Where:Music Center at Strathmore, 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda, MD 20852

When: February 26, 2012, 7:00pm

Why Go?: An evening of stand up comedy with legendary comedienne Lily Tomlin as she revisits more than a dozen of her timeless characters in a one-woman tour de force. Newsweek says Tomlin has "made the one person show the daring, irreverent art form it is today."
