Why go: Bring the family to join Canadian sing-along artists Judy & David for a fun-filled, get-up-and-dance, free concert that's part of Congregation Har Shalom's Hanukkah Happening. The duo has released 16 albums and four videos and sold over five million recordings worldwide. The concert kicks off at 4:00 p.m. Reservations are requested, but not required. Call 301-299-7087, ext. 309 and provide your name, contact info, and the number of seats you'll need. Seating is first-come, first-served (doors open at 3:30 p.m.). Donations are gratefully accepted.

Why go: See the Churchill Bulldogs take on the Springbrook Blue Devils in exciting MOCO 4A boys basketball action.

Where/When: The Writer's Center (4508 Walsh St., Bethesda/Chevy Chase, MD). Saturday, Dec. 17, at 5 p.m.

Why go: Austin H. Kiplinger, a distinguished author and publisher, will be presented with a Life-time Achievement in Journalism Award, and will discuss his perspectives gained from more than five decades as a reporter, broadcast commentator and editor. The program will be moderated by the accomplished and respected journalist, Don Larrabbe, a former president of the National Press Club.

4. Schoolhouse Rock

Where/When: The Arts Barn (311 Kent Square Road, North Potomac, Md.) on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2:00 p.m.

Why go: The Emmy Award-winning 70's Saturday morning cartoon comes to life at The Arts Barn. Featuring favorites such as "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction". Great for all ages, especially children.

Price: $18 for non-residents, $16 for Gaithersburg residents, $9 for children and students

5. Alternative Gift Market

Where/When: At the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation (6301 River Road, Bethesda) from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 to 1 p.m. on Dec. 18.

Why go: Check out 18 unique service groups and make a donation in a loved ones name rather than buying a traditional gift this year.
