Where/When: Race starts at  (5811 Warwick Pl., Chevy Chase) on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 9 a.m.

Why Go: For the 24th annual Somerset Elementary Back-to-School Classic, choose from an 8K run or a 2K walk. Proceeds help the Somerset Elementary School provide scholarships for after-school programs, build its library and offer students a rich cultural arts program. Brunch is provided to participants after the race, and there will be prizes.

Price: Adult registration is $30 by Oct. 21 and $40 on Oct. 23. Registration for children 18 and under is $15. Register online at active.com.

5. "TOUGH!" at The Writer's Center

Where/When:  (4508 Walsh St., Chevy Chase); Friday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m.

Why Go: A raw comedy by George F. Walker—one of Canada’s foremost playwrights—"TOUGH!" is an honest and intimate look at the very adult consequences of very young love.
