Why Go: Enjoy a parade at 10 a.m., the Potomac Day Classic Car Show, a business fair and other fun activities for the whole family.

Why Go: For the 24th annual Somerset Elementary Back-to-School Classic, choose from an 8K run or a 2K walk. Proceeds help the Somerset Elementary School provide scholarships for after-school programs, build its library and offer students a rich cultural arts program. Brunch is provided to participants after the race, and there will be prizes.

5. "TOUGH!" at The Writer's Center

Where/When:  (4508 Walsh St., Chevy Chase); Friday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m.
