Week in Review: Fundraisers, Towpath Repair and Breast Cancer Awareness

As we end another week and start another, it’s time for Patch’s week in review.

In the middle of the week the National Park Service released footage taken from inside the Washington Monument of the Aug. 23 earthquake. Visitors in the monument can be seen running down the stairs as debris falls from the ceiling around them. .

On Wednesday we reported that , including one at Potomac’s. On July 14, Herbert Hoover Middle School was vandalized with sexual images and hate language, and the incident is believed to be related to similar crimes in Bethesda. Crime Solvers of Montgomery County is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment.

This week we also ran several stories about breast cancer awareness. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we encourage everyone, not just woman, to educated themselves regarding the causes of breast cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, the chance of a woman developing invasive breast cancer some time during her life is a little less 1 in 8. The ACS also predicts that nearly 40,000 women will die in the United States in 2011 because of breast cancer.
