Winter Weather in October

The National Weather Service has called for snow to hit our region with possible accumulation of 1 to 4 inches.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for northern Montgomery County, which may see snow accumulation in October for only the sixth time in 139 years.

, warning of cold temperatures and possible snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches in some areas.

The D.C. metro area has seen snow in October before, though it's rare. Over a record spanning 139 years, only five October days have seen snow accumulation, the earliest record of which fell on the 10th in 1979 with 0.3 inches, according to The Washington Post

Snow was already spotted in parts of Potomac in the morning on Saturday, with the National Weather Service calling for heavier snow fall starting in the early afternoon.
