The late George Wasserman was a local businessman and philanthropic force in the community, including co-founding the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. The home was originally built for Charles Woodward, founder of Woodward & Lothrop department store chain, and was the site of numerous high profile gatherings where movie stars, such as Kirk Douglas, politicians and dignitaries, such as Lady and Lord Balfour, attended. The 4th Annual DC Design House benefits Children's National Medical Center, raising more than $200,000 for the hospital last year.
