Jewish Musician Performs Show at Har Shalom

A local family's generosity brings Steve Dropkin and The Rhythm Project to Congregation Har Shalom.

Hundreds of people from as far away as Baltimore enjoyed a concert Saturday evening sponsored by a local family dedicated to bringing music into children's lives.

Steve Dropkin and The Rhythm Project entertained the crowd with a variety of lively Jewish tunes in the sanctuary at  in Potomac. The performance was made possible by the Charlotte and Herbert Wool Endowment for Children's Music.

Iris and Howard Perry of Rockville created the endowment in 1997 in honor of the birth of their first grandchild, Alex Blackman of Gaithersburg, who was on hand for Saturday's event at Har Shalom. The foundation is named for Alex's great-grandparents.

"Because I believe that music is very important in a person's Jewish identity and because our family is so very much into music, we like to share it," said Iris Perry. "We try to help reinforce that feeling throughout the community."
