Businesses Sweeten Royal Wedding Celebrations

Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin Robbins in the Cabin John Shopping Center are offering specials to help celebrate the royal wedding.

The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton has our attention — and our appetites.

The largely publicized nuptials may be in England, but they are making an impact in Potomac as two local businesses are offering royal wedding-themed treats.

As William and Kate march down the isle on Friday, Potomac residents may be stopping by Dunkin’ Donuts in the Cabin John Shopping Center to sample their doughnut inspired by the royal wedding. The chain is selling jelly-filled, heart-shaped doughnuts with chocolate drizzle on top — a doughnut that signifies the tastes of the couple.

“The heart signifies the love between Prince William and Catherine, and the donut is filled with jelly to represent how their lives are to be ever-filled with happiness,” according to the Dunkin’ Donuts website. “In honor of the traditional white wedding gown, the donut is topped with white frosting, but adds a modern twist with the chocolate drizzle, in celebration of William’s love for chocolate.”

The doughnuts have been a hit in the Potomac location and sell out quickly, said store manager, Maira Ortac.

“They are selling very well and we don’t even have any right now because people are buying them up,” Ortac said.

The royal wedding treats cost $1.04 per doughnut, $4.49 for a half dozen and $7.49 for a dozen, Ortac said. The doughnuts will be available at stores through Friday.

Baskin Robbins — Dunkin’ Donuts’ sister company — is also offering a royal wedding ice cream cake, which will have a traditional basket weave style with blue and white English roses. The cake was designed to be reminiscent of an English garden, inspired by the colorful gardens of the Cotswolds, according to the website.

The cakes are available at the Baskin Robbins in the Cabin John Shopping Center, although the store has not sold any yet, said it owner, Sam Coleman.

“We haven’t sold any, but we are going to put it out in our display booklet,” Coleman said. “It light of the recent weather events, I’m not sure if we will see a lot of orders in the next day. People’s focus might be somewhere else.”

For those who are craving the cake, which can be made in any flavor of ice cream, Baskin Robbins guarantees a 24-hour turnaround with its orders, Coleman said. The royal wedding ice cream cake is available as long as people would like to order it and costs $29.99.
