Construction Begins for Potomac Swim and Tennis Club's Indoor Courts

The Potomac Swim and Tennis Club will have indoor courts by October of this year.

After eight long years, members and Director of Tennis Gregory Martin will finally see their dream become reality.

On June 20, crews began construction on three new courts, which will be covered by a “bubble” by October. The bubble will be the home to the club’s indoor courts will be the third and final part of a total club renovation after the pool house and pool were recently redone.

Construction has already begun to replace the club’s two existing courts with three new ones to be covered by the “bubble.” The club will have at total of six tennis courts once construction is completed.

Board Member Bruce Hurd said he is happy to see the addition of the indoor tennis courts and the improvement to the facility.

“The Potomac Swim and Tennis club is excited to provide this additional recreational opportunity for the members of our community club,” he said. “The Heritage Farm neighborhood is thrilled to have winter tennis, an additional amenity that will increase real property values in the surrounding neighborhood.”

The bubble itself will be light green, which will blend in with the nearby trees. The hard courts will have a very comfortable padded playing surface, Hurd said.

Members will be able to play at this tennis center from 6:30 a.m. through 9 p.m. A variety of memberships are available including full-time pool and tennis member, winter permanent member, winter temporary member and winter clinic member.  Early-bird tennis is also available.

Staudenmier Sales and Service, the general contractor for the Potomac Swim and Tennis Club’s project, has built many of the tennis bubbles in the Montgomery County. The project is being financed by John Marshall Bank.

“Potomac Swim and Tennis Club has assembled a tremendous team of experienced vendors to create a fabulous facility,” said Ted Sears, former president of the board and current Director of Special Projects.

Martin has served as Director of Tennis at Potomac Swim and Tennis Club since 1987 and has developed and led programs suited to member’s needs and skill levels. Martin and his staff of eight offer lessons and camps, instruct teams and set up local tournaments.

Martin sad the new indoor tennis facility will enhance the tennis program.

“With the new bubble, we will be able to offer year-round instructional programs for children, juniors and adults, including private and group lessons, team clinics as well as partner clinics and drills for doubles teams who want to work on strategy and technique,” he said. “We currently have many kids involved in our tennis camps.  Now they will have the ability to practice and play throughout the year.”

The club is now taking reservations for the seasonal court-time agreements where members can commit to the same court time throughout the season on the new indoor courts. They will also have spot time available, as well as Adult Clinics, Junior Program Clinics and private lessons.
