Drybar Customer Gets Free Hairstyles for 1 Year

As Drybar's 111,111,110th customer, Kara Manos of Chevy Chase will get free blowouts for one year at this wash-and-blowout-only salon.

Hair salon Drybar—which has close to 30 locations across the country, including one in Bethesda—recently celebrated a big milestone by offering its 1,111,111th customer free blowouts for life.

After determining the lucky customer—Christina Therrien, who had her hair done at the salon's Tribecca location in New York City—Drybar realized that its 1,111,110th customer—Kara Manos of Chevy Chase—had checked out of a salon just minutes before Therrien. Drybar decided to offer Manos free blowouts for a year.

Manos had gone to Bethesda Row's Drybar (4840 Bethesda Ave.) on Friday evening, June 28, knowing that the salon was about to offer its 1,111,111th customer a lifetime of good hair days but figured that the chances of her being that customer were pretty slim.

"I just wanted a blowout before I went out that night," she said.

But a few days later, she got a call from Drybar owner Alli Webb telling her that she'd come so close that she'd get free blowouts for a year.

"I’m beyond thrilled," Manos—a frequent Drybar customer and the author of the DC beauty blog "Politics of Pretty" (http://www.politicsofpretty.com)—said.

"I had to pull over on the Beltway when Alli called—I couldn’t believe it was her on the other end!"

"We were tracking every client at every Drybar that night, and Kara checked out just seconds before," Webb explained. "She was so close that we felt that we had to reward her for her near-perfect timing!"

Drybar opened its first shop in Los Angeles in February 2010. The salon offers blowouts—no cuts or color, just blow-dried hairstyles.
