Eater DC Details Wildwood Kitchen Design Elements

Green color tones, a casual atmosphere, and lots of wine are some of the elements behind Robert Wiedmaier's newest eatery.

Wildwood Kitchen marked its soft opening in the Wildwood Shopping Center last week, and Eater DC sat with architects Peter Hapstak and Natalie Park to talk design.

The eatery is the latest by noted chef Robert Wiedmaier, who is also behind Bethesda's Mussel Bar and the popular Marcel's, Brabo and Brasserie Beck.

Designers chose green as the dominant accent color for the cozy restaurant, which is small at 2,000 square feet and 55 seats.

The eatery features lots of wine, according to the interview -- a departure for Wiedmaier, who has showcased beer at his other restaurants -- and a casual atmosphere, with comfortable seating and servers wearing jeans and plaid shirts.

'I didn't want it to be a special occasion restaurant; we have Marcel's and Brabo for that," Wiedmaier told the design team, according to the report.
