Goldberg’s Bagels to Open at Cabin John Shopping Center
The store will be Goldberg's third in Montgomery County.
Goldberg’s Bagels, selected by Washingtonian Magazine as among the best bagel places in the DC area, has chosen Potomac as the site for its third store to open early in 2012.
Owner Dan Kellerman told Patch that the new eatery will be in the at 7731 Tuckerman Lane next to Robeks Juice and .
Goldberg’s Bagels has been highly successful since opening in Silver Spring on Georgia Avenue about two years ago. It has another location in Rockville at 4824 Boiling Brook Blvd.
Kellerman said the space his firm at Cabin John is taking has “been vacant for awhile” and that it formerly was a Mailboxes location.
Goldberg’s Bagels, popular in New York City, has fared especially well in Silver Spring and Kellerman said he hopes to replicate that success in Potomac.
Business at the Rockville store, which is not located in a major shopping area, “has been okay,” Kellerman said. But he added that he plans to also use that location as a ‘commisssary’ to serve the other two eateries.
Al Galdi, a sports radio talk show host on ESPN-980, thinks Goldberg’s is likely to be a hit in Potomac. They’ve delivered bagels for the last two years during his Monday morning show ‘Redskins Recap.’
“I’m big on eating healthy and they bring each Monday a bagel sandwich with egg whites and salmon,” Galdi says. “That’s what I appreciate about Goldberg’s. You can eat well but also eat healthy.”
John Pope, who works at Robeks Juice next door, said the Goldberg’s Bagels sign is already up. “I’m not really sure how it will affect us,” he said. “We could get more customers who want a drink with the bagels, or it could go the other way.”
Goldberg’s Bagels, popular in New York City, has been highly praised since coming to DC. “The bagel sandwiches are stintingly made but we found ourselves going back again and again for the lovingly baked bagels,” Washingtonian wrote earlier this year.
The magazine also praised the unusual varieties of bagels offered at Goldberg’s citing the ‘flagel’, a flat bagel that comes in a variety of flavors.
