Golden Fries, Chili Sauce and Shark Fin...Cupcakes?

Get caught up with the food scene in Montgomery County and adjacent Washington, DC, neighborhoods with "1 Meat, 3 Sides." This week, a Korean restaurant in Rockville takes center plate:

One Meat:

The spicy chili sauce at Moa, a Rockville restaurant (12300 Wilkins Ave.), got high marks from Washingtonian Magazine food critic Todd Kliman.

"To rattle off the [chili sauce's] ingredients—soy sauce, chili and sesame oils, green onions—is to miss the magic of this sauce, one of those cases in which the sum is much greater than its parts," Kliman wrote.

And, it's not just the chili sauce that is delicious. "The kitchen is putting out some of the most exciting Korean food in the area right now," Kliman added.

Kliman also advised ordering the mandu dumplings, seafood pancake, bibim bap and, to drink, a Hite (a Korean beer) or a cocktail made of soju (a Korean liquor) and pureed fruit (Kliman recommends the watermelon and mango versions).

Three Sides:

Two highly anticipated restaurants have hit opening delays: —celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio's latest creation, slated for the Chevy Chase Pavilion in Friendship Heights—and the , which will replace the art deco Bethesda Theatre at 7719 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda Magazine reported.

Both restaurants were to open next month, but now are to open likely in November, Carole Sugarman reported for Bethesda Magazine.

Bethesda’s  (4827 Fairmont Ave.) will re-name its “Gold Standard” French fries in honor of , Bethesda's swimming phenomenon who took home the gold medal in the women’s 800m Olympics race in London. Look for the fries Aug. 13 through 31.

A new noodle joint may be coming to Montgomery County, Bethesda Magazine reported:

Dennis Friedman, chef and owner of Bethesda’s , has a new project in the works: Newton’s Noodles, a fast casual restaurant that will be based around his signature creation, Fuzu, a comforting rice noodle dish similar to Pad Thai.

The first Newton's Noodles will open this spring at 1129 20th St. NW, Washington, DC, but Friedman hopes to open a second location in either Bethesda or Rockville, Bethesda Magazine added.

Discovery's 25th annual Shark Week started Sunday, and Georgetown Cupcake ( at 4834 Bethesda Ave. and , Washington, DC, at 3301 M St. NW.) has a special Shark Week cupcake—complete with sharks and body parts emerging out of waves of fluffy blue frosting—to mark the occasion, and .
