New Wisconsin Place Boutique Sells Elegant Clothing, Donates to Charities

Nina McLemore's mission includes donating money to charities.

The long-vacant Shops at Wisconsin Place storefront once occupied by Adolfo Dominguez is filled, and the southern side of the gracious plaza is fully occupied once again.

The new tenant is women's clothing boutique Nina McLemore, which sells high-end, elegant and timeless business and leisure clothing made in the U.S. with luxurious fabrics. The store is between The Capital Grille and Le Pain Quotidien, at 5310B Western Ave., Chevy Chase.

It's a perfect fit for its location. Nina McLemore's clients include chief executive officers of Fortune 100 companies, senior government officials, prominent lawyers, entrepreneurs, corporate executives, authors, journalists and women active in their communities, according to a news release.

But Nina McLemore is more than just another upscale Chevy Chase clothing boutique. Nina McLemore—who founded Liz Claiborne Accessories in 1980 and who lives just down the road, in Georgetown—started her business 10 years ago "with the express purpose of being able to donate to charities that support women and children, the arts, healthcare and education."

So far, the business has raised $1.3 million for various charities, the business reported.

McLemore's other inspiration for founding the line was "hearing from women left disappointed by the fashion industry's failure to meet their needs for high-quality clothing for their busy lives," the news release added.

The store's soft opening took place in late July. Adolfo Dominguez closed about a year ago, and neighboring eatery Tynan Coffee and Tea closed this past winterLe Pain Quotidien opened up in the old Tynan spot this past spring, and now, with Nina McLemore, that arm of the plaza is filled again.

This is the 12th Nina McLemore flagship store—other locations are in New York City, Nantucket, Vail, Seattle and other cities across the country. Nina McLemore clothing also can be found at many high-end clothing shops.

The store's collection is known for its fine fabrics from Switzerland, Italy and England; bright colors; excellent fit; and light weights that are season-less and wrinkle-resistant—perfect for international travel. Styling is elegant rather than provocative.

"With the number of social and diplomatic events in Washington, the evening collection will be a significant part of the collection," the news release added.
