Old Angler's Inn to Host Fashion Fundraiser

Event will raise funds for the National Rehabilitation Hospital Brain Injury Program.

Four years ago, Charles Reges was in a devastating car accident that caused him to need life support for six weeks and left him partially paralyzed following the accident.

Sara Reges and her husband Mark stayed with Charles at the National Rehabilitation Hospital’s Children’s Hospital, hoping for the best.

Today, Charles is a totally normal healthy teenager and Sara, a nurse, now works for Program Advancement at NRH. Sara and Mark — who own and operate the — are using their experiences with NRH to power the Fourth Annual Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show at the restaurant, which will raise funds for the hospital’s Brain Injury Program.

“I made a promise to myself that I would do anything I could to help Children’s Hospital, the National Rehabilitation Hospital and their Brain Injury programs,” Sara said. “They made such a difference in our lives.”

The May 5 event, held just in time for Mother’s Day, will feature mother-daughter models in casual, business and formal attire from Bloomingdales - Tysons Corner. Accessories and gifts from Barbie B will also be on display and attendees will enjoy a gourmet lunch on the patio or under a tent if rain threatens. Everyone will receive a gift bag, and raffle prizes will be featured.

The NRH has the largest program in the Washington, D.C., metro area, treating more than 200 inpatients a year, according to its website. Besides adults and children with Traumatic Brain Injury, they also treat patients with brain tumors, infections, and brain hemorrhages.

The NRH plans to open four Concussion Clinics to help those with mild traumatic brain injuries receive proper treatment and funding from this luncheon will make the clinics possible.

“I am pleased to be raising funds for these important Concussion Clinics,” Sara said. “We are hoping to open more clinics soon in the area.  Sports accidents, falls, vehicle crashes and blunt trauma are all causes of traumatic brain injury. These clinics will help patients to receive the proper treatment.”

The Honorary Chair of the luncheon is Anita Brikman, WUSA9 Anchor, who will model fashions with her daughter Lily. Other mother-daughter models are Karen and Georgia Collins and Kristie Haley with daughters Kelleigh and Elizabeth. Julia Palmer, Manager of Bloomingdales-Tyson’s Corner will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies and her daughter Olivia will also be modeling. Barbie B Accessories and Gifts will also be donating a percentage of the sales.

The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. and go until 2:30 p.m. with the Fashion Show starting at 12 p.m. Tickets to the event are $50. To RSVP  call 301-365-2425 or e-mail info@oldanglersinn.com. Even if you are unable to attend, you can still make a donation to the cause, Sara said.
