5 Things to Know Today: Aug. 15

A look at the five things to know to begin your week in Potomac.

Good morning, Potomac! We hope that you had a fun and restorative weekend. Start the week off right with these five things to know today in Potomac.

1. After a wild and woolly evening, showers and thunderstorms remain in the weather forecast. There's a 70 percent chance of rain with highs in the low 80s, according to WJLA.com. Monday evening will see cloudy conditions with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Temps will dip to the low 60s.

2. Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will collect new school supplies and backpacks at business locations around the county this month and donate to MCPS students in need during its fourth annual Back-to-School Fair on Saturday, Aug. 27.

From Aug 10 to 17, items can be dropped off in collection boxes at Whole Food Market at the locations listed below. On Wednesday, Aug. 17, follow Whole Foods on Twitter @WFM_MoCo and like them on Facebook for chances to win prizes.

  • 316 Kentlands Blvd., Gaithersburg
  • 11355 Woodglen Dr., Rockville

School supplies and backpacks also can be dropped off through Thursday, Aug. 25, at the MCPS Department of Family and Community Partnerships, 850 Hungerford Dr., Rockville, in Room 50. (use the west entrance). Check out the The Back-to-School Fair website for a list of the most needed supplies.

5. On this day in 1969, thousands of music-loving youth descended upon Yasgur's Farm in Bethel, NY, for the Woodstock Music Festival.
