5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 5

A look at what you need to know today in Potomac.

Get up, get out and get informed. Use these five things to say on top of what’s going on today in Potomac. 

1. Grab that umbrella today because there is a chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Rain could be coming again between 9 a.m. and noon and the high will be near 56 degrees. The evening will be partly cloudy with a low near 34 degrees.

2. Budget cuts are affecting many aspects of life in Potomac, including the community center. A meeting at the at 7 p.m. will discuss the County Executive’s and it's impact on the Department of Recreation. Recreation Director Gabriel Albornoz will be at the meeting, so don’t miss this opportunity to understand possible changes at the community center.

3. If you speak Chinese or want to practice, join the meeting at the at 6 p.m. This month’s discussion will be of "The Teachings of Confucious" by Shaonong Wang. Didn’t have time to read this month’s selection? Join the book club on May 3 as they read "Travel and Life" by Kenichi Omae.

4. In case you missed it, Potomac Patch was there to document the . The meeting hosted by the county gave many frustrated Montgomery County citizens the chance to speak out against the process in which the community was informed about the future of a 20-acre lot of land on Brickyard Road currently being used for organic farming. In early March the Board of Education voted to lease the land to Montgomery County to build soccer fields.
