5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 26

Your daily digest of need-to-know information about Potomac.

Good morning, Potomac! It's a beautiful Tuesday in the neighborhood. Here are five things you need to know today to stay on top of what’s going on in the community:

1. Get ready to enjoy the best weather we've seen in more than a week: today will be sunny, but minus the extreme heat and (especially) humidity so it will feel much more comfortable. Highs will be in the low to mid 90s. Tuesday night will clear, becoming partly cloudy late with lows in the 60s.

2. Today the Montgomery County Council will hold a public hearing on the county teen curfew bill, this afternoon 1:30 p.m. at the County Council Building (100 Maryland Ave., Rockville). The proposed legislation would ban anyone younger than 18 from public places after 11 p.m. weekdays and midnight on weekends, except when accompanied by (or acting at direction of) parents, or participating in school or religious functions. The hearing comes on the heels of last week's lively community meeting in Silver Spring, where residents, police, county officials and students debated the controversial proposal.

A limited number of chairs are provided (but bringing your own lawn is advised). Shows start promptly at 9 p.m. Tonight's film: The Breakfast Club. (See the rest of the ).

4. It's Tuesday, which means you can pick up a pizza before the movie and get a deal at Potomac Pizza. Today is their weekly Tuesday 'Night' Special: buy any large pizza and get a second one for 99 cents (no coupon necessary). Special available all day.

5. Kids Night at Rockville Town Square is also this evening--where you and the kids can catch two free live stage shows (designed to be fun and educational) along with balloon art and more happenings. Also something adults will enjoy: a free kids meal will be given with purchase of an adult entree, at participating restaurants (see web site for list). Shows start at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Enjoy your Tuesday!
