5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 13

Your daily digest of need-to-know information about Potomac.

Good morning, Potomac. It’s time to start the day off right with the five things you need to know. Today’s edition is featuring the kick off of the U.S. Open, a local graduation and something to look forward to later on the site.

1. It’s going to be another warm day with a high near 79 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The low will be around 56 degrees. Expect some wind in the afternoon with gusts reaching up to 13 miles per hour. 

2. It’s the first day of the U.S. Open, a golf tournament that brings some of the game’s greatest players to Congressional County Club right outside of Potomac. Here’s the schedule of events for today and what the rest of the week will look like.

  • Monday- Practice round, gates open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday- Practice round, gates open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday- Practice round, gates open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday- Championship round 1, gates open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday- Championship round 2, gates open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday- Championship round 3, gates open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Sunday- Championship round 4, gates open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • If there is a tie for the lead at the end of 72 holes, an 18-hole playoff will be held on Monday, June 20. The playoff will begin at noon and finish at approximately 4 p.m. Gates will open at 9:30 a.m.

3. It’s an exciting day for seniors at Churchill High School! at DAR Constitution Hall. will speak at their graduation ceremony. Potomac Patch will be there to document the graduation in photos and video so be sure to check back for the coverage.
