5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 30

You really can't go on without knowing these five things going on in the community.

Wake up and smell the coffee! It’s another day in Potomac with even more information you need to know to keep you informed about what’s happenin’ in the community.

Now, without further ado… the five things YOU need to know!

1. It’s going to be another hot one out there today, so be sure to drink plenty of water if you’re going to be outside. This editor will be spending the day working indoors with lots of the air conditioning or at least a fan! It will be sunny with a high near 84 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The low will be around 61 degrees.

2. In need of a haircut? Trim your locks and help raise funds for breast cancer research at the George Bacchus Salon and Spa’s The salon located at 10118 River Rd. is partnering with black 15in1, a hair treatment, to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., stop by the salon and pamper yourself and not only will you be helping Susan G. Komen Foundation, but also receiving complimentary drinks, hors d’oeuvres and a gift bag.

3. It may be summer time, but kids can still learn about science in a fun way at the . Mad Science of Washington will be presenting at the library from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The show, which is free and good for kids from kindergarten through elementary school age, will feature bubbling potions, cool chemicals and more.

4. On this beautiful day, why not take some time today to peruse the local vendors at the , which goes on from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the . The weekly market brings local vendors — like McCleafs Orchard, Rocklands Farm, Alliaabad Farm, Garden Path Farms and more — to the church’s parking lot with a variety of items.
