5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 16

Get in the know about what's going on today in Potomac.

Rise and shine, Potomac! We don’t want you to be out of the loop today, so here are the five things you need to know.

1. If you’re heading out before 8 a.m., you may want to bring your umbrella. The National Weather Service predicts that there is a 60 percent chance of rain before 8 a.m., and winds could get up to 11 miles-per-hour. The day’s high will be 61 and there will be a low around 39 degrees.

2. Get to the at 1 p.m. today for another monthly. This month's discussion will be of "His Illegal Self" by Peter Carey, and copies will be available at the circulation desk. Didn’t have time to read this month’s selection? Well, be sure to check out "A Gate at the Stairs" by Lorrie Moore for the book club meeting on April 20.

3. Help out a local elementary school this evening while enjoying some delicious pizza, too! is hosting a for its PTA at Domino’s in the Potomac Woods Shopping Center starting at 5 p.m. Fill out this form on the PTA website and bring it to the store, and the school will receive 15 percent of the total order price.

4. There’s a lot of diversity in Potomac, and families at are celebrating it tonight with the Taste of Hoover event. The event, which will take place at the school from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., will feature performances, displays and tastes from around the world provided by Hoover students and families. Admission is free!

5. If you’re in need of a drink and some entertainment, stop by today for happy hour and live music. Today, singer and pianist Monique Chalk will perform in the Lounge, and happy hour will go from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a selection of $5 drinks and food.
