Good morning, Potomac and here are the five things to help you stay on top of what’s going on in your backyard.

1. It’s Fat Tuesday, and while for many it may mean the kick off of Mardi Gras, here it may mean partaking in an extra indulgence and preparing for local church services. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday" and refers to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which starts on Ash Wednesday.

2. If you’re looking for other ways to indulge, stop by the River Falls Market today for a special Mardi Gras menu with items like shrimp creole, boiled whole crawfish, jambalaya and more. The market is inviting hungry customers to celebrate the spectacular flavors of Cajon country, so give it a try before they run out!

3. It’s looking like it’s going to be a nice day in Potomac as the National Weather Service is predicting sunny weather with a high near 50 degrees. The day’s low will be around 32 degrees.

4. Potomac Patch featured a story yesterday about how based on a vote by the Board of Education today to turn the property over to the county. The Board of Education is meeting today and hosting a public comment period at 10 a.m. and voting on the issue between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

5. ’s new exterior design will be revealed tonight at its PTA meeting. Stop by the school’s Media Center tonight at 7 p.m. to see Moseley Architect’s design for the “New Hoover.”
