Rise and shine, Potomac. It’s another day with another five things you need to know to stay informed in your community.

1. Give your favorite teacher a hug, an apple or a thank you note, because it’s National Teacher Day! On this day, thousands of communities take time to honor their local educators and acknowledge the crucial role teachers play in making sure every student receives a quality education, according to the National Education Association’s website. Share how you are appreciate teachers today!

2. Rain could be in the forecast today in Potomac. There is a 20 percent chance of showers after noon and an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms at night, according to the National Weather Service. The day will be partly sunny, with a high near 81 degrees and the evening will have a low around 52 degrees.
