Get Out: Picks for the Weekend of March 4

A look at some options for things to do this weekend.

March came in like a lamb this year so maybe winter is just a memory! With spring well on its way, it’s time to get out and about. Here are some “get outta the house and into your spring mode” activities to enjoy with family and friends.

1. Cabin John Kids: Beowulf the Wonderbunny with Tom Lily

2. Connelly School of the Holy Child:  “Once On This Island”

WHERE/WHEN: Friday, March 4, 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.

WHY GO: Enjoy a Tony-award winning musical based on “The Little Mermaid”

PRICING: $10 for adults, $5 for students and kids.

3. Wine Tasting at The Bottle Shop

WHERE/WHEN: Friday, March 4, 5-7 p.m. in The Bottle Shop, 350 Fortune Terrace in the Potomac Woods Shopping Center.

WHY GO: Taste and purchase a variety of Portuguese wines

4. Exhibit 9 Gallery “Touch of Love”

WHERE/WHEN: Sunday, March 5 through March 15, 10116 Lloyd Road, Potomac. Call Sarah Barzmehri at 202-276-9419 to make an appointment.

WHY GO: The show features water color and prints by Nasser Ovissi, watercolor by Hanna Beth Sanford, glass by Bonnie Granek, paintings and jewelry by Nurieh Mozaffori, photography by Fataneh Dadkhah, and painting and print by Elizabeth Grusin-Howe.

PRICING: Free

5. Cabin John Ice Rink

WHERE/ WHEN: Public skating sessions on Saturday: 12-2 p.m., 4-6 p.m. and 8:30-10:30 p.m.; Sunday, 8:30-10 a.m., 12:30-2:30 p.m. and 4:30-6:30 p.m. The ice rink is located at 10610 Westlake Drive in Rockville.

WHY GO: Ice skating is a outstanding way to spend  healthy, quality time with family and friends. A new session of group lessons which includes tots, beginners to advanced, hockey and figure skating will begin on March 2. The rink is also a great place to hold a birthday or office parties.

PRICING: $6.25 for adults, $5.25 for kids and seniors, $3.25 for skate rental. Check out the website for the “Cheapskate” deal which includes admission and skate rentals.

6. The Art Gallery of Potomac

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday, March 5, 2-4 p.m., 10107 River Road.

WHY GO: To see a dog portrait demonstration. First person to enter the Gallery with their doggie’s photo will receive a FREE dog portrait painted by artist Dot Procter.
