Get Out: Potomac Picks for the Weekend Of July 15 - 17

Hot ideas for cool activities in and around Potomac.

Here we are, halfway through July – and you have nothing to do this weekend. Check out Patch and we’ll give you fun activities, things to do to entertain your little ones, your friends or just you! Get ready and get rockin’ for your “I'm-outta-work-and-free” weekend!

 

1. DONATE YOUR USED BICYCLE TO “BIKES FOR THE WORLD.”

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday, July 16, noon – 3:00 p.m., Potomac Swim & Tennis Club, 10531 Oaklyn Drive, Potomac.

WHY GO: Make room in your garage while helping those who cannot afford a bike. (In many countries, a bicycle is the only means of transportation).

2. GET GROOVIN’ WITH GROOVY NATE.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday, July 16, 1:00– 2:30 p.m., , Bethesda (located across from Whole Foods on River Road.)

WHY GO: The kids will love eating pizza and singing along with Groovy Nate’s entertaining show.

3. ATTEND THE OPENING RECEPTION OF TOM HLAS' “JOY OF COLOR” EXHIBIT.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday, July 16, 3:00 – 8:00 PM at Exhibit 9 Gallery, 10116 Lloyd Rd, Potomac.

WHY GO: Presenting new artist Tom Hlas, as well as a rare and permanent collection of Irannian artists.

4. BRING YOUR PHOTOS IN FOR A PROFESSIONAL CRITIQUE.

WHERE/WHEN: Sunday, July 17, 10:00 a.m.– noon, Photoworks Studio at Glen Echo Park.

WHY GO: A Photoworks faculty member will critique your photography.  Come and bring your best images.  Coffee and Donuts will be served.

5. MEET "CORDUROY" AT THE TOY CASTLE.

WHERE/WHEN:  Friday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m., Toy Castle, Cabin John Mall.

WHY GO: Your kids will love shaking Corduroy bear’s paw and telling him how much they love his books!

6. IDENTIFY THE TREES ALONG THE POTOMAC

WHERE/WHEN: Sunday, July 17, 2:30–4:00 p.m., River Center at Lock 8, 7906 Riverside Dr, Cabin John.

WHY GO: Naturalist Laura Miller will take you on an afternoon walk around the C&O Canal to identify tree species found along the Potomac River.  Enjoy the gorgeous scenery, too!

7. START CELEBRATING THE WEEKEND WITH HAPPY HOUR.

WHERE/WHEN: Old Angler’s Inn, The Irish Inn, MacArthur Blvd, Hunter’s Inn, Bezu, .

WHY GO: All these restaurants offer Happy Hour at its finest! Relax with a glass of wine outdoors or escape to the air conditioning for a brew! Celebrate – it’s Friday!
