1. Charlotte's Web

Where/When: Adventure Theatre, Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo, MD. Shows at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6.
Why Go: Adventure Theatre presents E.B. White's Charlotte's Web, a classic and beloved story of Wilbur the pig and his spider friend Charlotte. This play is ideal for children ages 3 and older.

Where/When: 8565 Horseshoe Ln., Potomac, MD, on Sunday, Aug. 7 from 4-6 p.m.
Why Go: Join Food & Water Watch for a tour and Farm Bill workshop. Learn about the importance of small-scale, organic farms and create community engagement for a food system that benefits farmers, consumers, and the environment through the Farm Bill. Also, come out to find about the campaign to save Nick's Organic Farm.

Where/When: Popcorn Gallery, Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Boulevard in Glen Echo, MD. An opening reception will be held Saturday, August 6, from 3-5 p.m.
Why Go: Students from visual arts courses at Glen Echo Park will have an excellent opportunity to showcase their art, including painting, drawing and jewelry, with the community. The show is non-juried and is open to students of all ages. The exhibit runs through Sept. 5. Gallery hours: Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day Monday, noon to 6 p.m.

4. Comcast Outdoor Film Festival

Where: Universities at Shady Grove, 9630 Gudelsky Dr., Rockville, MD
Why Go: A movie under the stars makes a summer's night even sweeter. Bring a blanket, your friends and/or family and enjoy one or all of these films. Restaurants open at 6:30 p.m., and a portion of the proceeds benefit NIH children's charities. Parking is free.

  • UP!, Saturday, Aug. 6, at 8:30 p.m
  • Toy Story 3, Sunday, Aug. 7, at 8:30 p.m.

5.  Celebrate Frederick Summer Concert Series

Where/When: Baker Park Band Shell, 2nd and Bentz Streets, Frederick, MD. Sunday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m.
Why Go: 99.9 WFRE Free Country Showcase featurning musician Matt Stillwell. Pets are welcome and are restricted to the lawn area. Snack foods and drinks are available for purchase from 6-8:30 p.m.  For more information, contact The Office of Special Events at 301-600-2844.
