Nick's Organic Farm Wages Campaign to Save Farm on Facebook
Organic farmer Nick Maravell has taken his cause to the Facebook masses with a new Facebook page called "SAVE Nick's Organic Farm."
According to , it's the 20-somethings out of college who are leading the charge to save a heritage farm using social media.
"I'm not a big Facebook or Twitter person," he said.
But when daughter Sophia proposed the idea of creating a Facebook page, Maravell didn't resist.
He recounted Sophia's rationale in the early days of spring. "She said, 'We need it to communicate with a large group of people about the farm, and it would reach young people.'"

"SAVE Nicks Organic Farm" was created in April in direct response to the Brickyard Road Soccer Fields project, a proposed plan by Montgomery County to develop up to four soccer fields on a 20-acre site leased to Nick's Organic Farm for 31 years.

A fundraiser for Nick's Organic Farm will be held Aug. 21 from noon to 5 p.m. Maravell said that Squeeze Bayou, a bluegrass Cajun band, will provide entertainment. Tours of the farm and food will be available to the public.
Sponsored by the Maryland Organic Food & Farming Association, the fundraiser will also be an opportunity for local farmers to come together for what Maravell says is an important local issue.
