Patch Picks: Cool off with Local Ice Cream Shops

With highs in the mid-80s this weekend, it will be the perfect time to grab a sweet treat to cool down.

If you’re looking for some of the best local stops for your frozen delights, Potomac Patch has you covered with this list of five great places to get to grab a great snack, whether it’s an ice cream sandwich, double dip on a cone, frozen yogurt or gelato. 1. Sprinkles- Located in the Potomac Village, Sprinkles offers a great selection of ice cream and frozen yogurt as well as other tasty desserts. This local favorite offers lots of flavors, toppings and even lower calorie options. Stop by on Saturday between around 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. and on Sunday between around 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. 

2. Baskin Robbins- During the summer the Baskin Robbins in the Cabin John Shopping Center has a line of customers and an outdoor seating area teeming with local families. Whether you want a shake, smoothie or a scoop of Toffee Pecan Crunch—the flavor of the month—this location is the spot to try. 

3. Yogi Castle- If you’re looking for Kosher certified frozen yogurt, try Yogi Castle located at 12209 Darnestown Rd. in Gaithersburg. With a mix of “fro yo,” smoothies and desserts, it could be a great family outing. Choose the flavor yogurt and add your favorite toppings to make each cool treat unique! 

4. Dippin’ Dots- Combine ice cream and shopping with this futuristic dessert shop at the Westfield Montgomery Shopping Mall. The “dots” are a mixture made of flavored dairy products that is frozen almost instantly in liquid nitrogen. It’s located on the first floor of the mall by Sears.

5. - Located at 7111 Bethesda Ln., Dolcezza Gelato serves handmade gelato made fresh daily using locally sourced ingredients. Dolcezza also offers coffee and espresso drinks.
